Did you hear the one about.....
For some couples the naming process brings
out a silly streak. For those with a wicked sense of humor, have some fun.
Over dinner with friends or family discuss the options, come up with some
creative choices. Make jokes, be outrageous. Get it out of your system so
you can focus on the process.

Making a list and checking it twice.
Somewhere in the middle of your
pregnancy, start putting your favorite names down on paper. Actually write
out a list starting with first name options. Next, move on to middle names
(if you want one, and most couples do) which you should list separately.
Many of the names will be selected simply because you like them, but some
may remind you of a special friend or family member.

Put Your Right Foot In....
Start making name combinations using the first
and middle names. Next add your last name, which some people forget and it
is an important ingredient. You'll sometimes find that a first and middle
name go great together, but when you add the last name it just doesn't work.
Write the names out completely to see how they look and then read them out
loud to see how they sound.
|
 |
Rate the names. Write down all of the options and combinations (try to
keep it under 50 or it's too difficult to manage) and then reduce the list
by eliminating names one by one. When you have your top ten, put the list
aside. Revisit the list a few weeks later. You'll be surprised at how your
feelings might have changed.

Tell me what you REALLY think.
Make copies of your list and take some
along when you visit friends, family, business associates so you can ask
their opinion. Listen, but take it all with a grain of salt. When Aunt Marge
starts pushing Mildred Jane (her late mother's name), fix a smile on your
face and keep repeating to yourself, "I'm choosing my baby's name, I'm
choosing my baby's name, I'm choosing my baby's name..."
